Masha Campagne was one of the artists recently featured in concert series "Live at KRML" at Jazz & Blues Company in Carmel, CA along with Holly Cole, Eldar, Sony Holland and others.
Here's what Andrew Gilbert wrote in Monterey County Weekly article about this event (February 2008)
"There’s an intoxicating wind from the East sweeping across the Peninsula in February, and it’s blowing fantastically hot and pleasingly cool.
The disparate currents emanate from the same source, as a pair of exceptional musicians born in the Soviet Union make their debuts at the Jazz & Blues Company on successive weekends. The blazing young pianist Eldar Djangirov performs with his trio on Saturday, and the gifted vocalist Masha Campagne holds forth on Feb. 9 with a superlative Brazilian jazz combo featuring Peninsula piano maestro Weber Iago, reed expert Harvey Wainapel, bassist Scott Thompson and drummer Phil Thompson." ...she reveals a deep, luxuriant voice that suggests the richest, darkest chocolate and the ripest, tartest blackberries.
Christopher Loudon/JazzTimes
"Campagne's sensual lyric portrayals and animated wordless vocals make you feel as though you're in Rio on vacation, parading through city streets while samba bands crank up the emotional level a few notches. She's musically superb, lyrically convincing, and leaves us with a memorable debut."
Jim Santella/LA Jazz Scene
Just as the masters of this genre would have done, Campagne adapts two examples of the Great American Songbook to fit into the samba life. Cole Porter's “So In Love” is given a turn, as is an up-tempo version of the Rodgers & Hammerstein show tune “It Might As Well Be Spring,” recalling the efforts of a young Astrud Gilberto.

It's not often you find a native Russian singer who has mastered the art of Brazilian jazz. If you didn't know any better, you'd swear Masha Campagne was from the sunny shores of Rio de Janeiro instead of the cold and dreary city streets of Moscow.
Campagne's vocal style is well suited for the bossa nova, it's the perfect fit as it rides gently above the samba rhythms. The highlight of the album is a nine and a half minute medley of Antonio Carlos Jobim tunes, a fitting tribute to the king of Brazilian music. Not only does she pay him homage, she does it well.

"Campagne’s capable singing lightens the mood as she ripples through the quick rhythms and melodies. Her diction and technique are delightfully displayed in “Doralice”, a jewel on the album in which Campagne’s style is reminiscent of Brazilian legend Elis Regina. She pulls this song off sounding like a true brasileira.

"...surprisingly smart set of tunes... Very good stuff. Complex, layered.

“Masha Campagne crafts a cleaver project with a selective repertoire that transcends two genres…. The result is a very warm session of beautiful Brazilian grooves certain to please the most discerning and sophisticated jazz audience.”
Edward Blanco/Ejazznews
“Masha Campagne communicates a thoroughly-hip and venturous command of the Brazilian-jazz vernacular … diva’s softly expressive vocals convey a sense of ownership with pieces by Jobim, Cole Porter and others.”
Glenn Astarita/Ejazznews
“Caminhos Cruzados = Crossroads” showcase two different facets of jazz, the technical and the emotional both succeed in articulating the art of Brazilian romance. Campagne and Iago are a special duo with a special talent to read each other. I can only hope their next project reaches a level above. What a moment it would be!”
Karl Stober/Jazz Review
“The centerpiece, “Jobim Medley,”… seductively arranged by Rio de Janeiro-raised pianist Weber Iago, brings the rich sound of the cello into the mix to accompany Campagne's zestfully seductive vocals.”
Dan McClenaghan/All About Jazz
"Caminhos Cruzados' is exciting, exhilarating, and soulful. In the hands of the great Brazilian arranger/producer/pianist Weber Iago, Masha truly transports one to the heart of Brazil. For me, rhythm is the key and accompanied by, among others, the likes of percussionist Michael Spiro and Dutch drum master Paul van Wageningen, the key definitely fits!! This new CD is a great showcase for Masha and will give her the recognition she truly deserves."
Frank Martin pianist/composer/arranger
"Masha introduces herself as a sultry diva with a twist of Latin flare, made all the better by the fact that Masha Campagne is Russian. This cultural mishmash makes her voice and style a unique blend all her own, separating it from her contemporaries.”
Justin Scro/Cashbox Magazine
"Masha Campagne’s “Caminhos Cruzados = Crossroads” has compassionate undertones, sultry instruments, and strapping rhythms that command the attention of all listeners."
